Nevada High Class of 81
next reunion 2012

If you know the whereabouts of classmates please forward them to Tony. I've created a Google Docs Spreadsheet to track contact informaiton. I don't want to publish it here because some web bot might find it and get our contact information.

I've made a new page where you can download high quality photos from year gone by. If you have photos you would like to share, contact me and we will make it happen. Click here for the downloads.

Some people's pictures have hot spots. Check them out. I'll be adding more hot spots as I find time. Remember the slide show put together by David Sly? If you've got the speed, here it is.

After graduation, I attended Iowa State University and received a B.S. in microbiology. I started working in research at Pioneer Hi-Bred during college and have been there, in different capacities, ever since. Currently I'm working in Food and Feed Research on different end-use applications for corn grain. I married Rick Zimmermann in 1989 and we have two girls...Maggie, 6, and Rachel, nearly 3. Rick works for Earthgrains as a sales supervisor. Maggie will be starting 1st grade at North Polk this fall. She swims, plays soccer, takes ballet, and all the normal 6 year old girl things. Rachel can't wait to turn 3 so she can do big girl things like take ballet, go to Sunday school, and start preschool. We live on 6 acres near Big Creek in a 100 year old house with a dog and 4 cats (at the present time...always subject to change!). Needless to say, with a 100 year old house, we spend a lot of time working on the house and property! This is the third house we've owned and each one has been older than the previous, so I guess you could say renovating old houses is our hobby. We also enjoy boating and skiing, but don't get to do that nearly enough. We're big Iowa State fans and spend a lot of time in Ames at football and basketball games.

Children:
Shawn 1984
Kelsey 1989

After high school, I married Scott, we lived in Nevada until 1987 when he graduated from college. We moved to Chillicothe, MO for a year and then off to Williamsburg where we have lived for the past 14 years. Scott has an AAS degree in Tool and Die Making from DMACC in Ankeny. I have an Associates of Arts degree from the Legal Assistance Program at Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids. Scott is working as a Tool and Die Maker at Williamsburg Manufacturing and I am a paralegal for Bartley Law Office in Iowa City. We have two children-Shawn who will be a senior this fall at Iowa Mennonite School, and a daughter named Kelsey who starts 7th grade at Lutheran Interparish School in the fall. I have recently been named as the Sunday School Superintendent at our church in Iowa City and that keeps me very busy as well as keeping up with all of our children's activities. My husband and I like to travel, "surf the net", read and watch movies in our spare time. We're in the process of renovating our house too.

I am still married to Scott and we are celebrating our 24th anniversary July 17th, 2006. I am a legal assistant in Coralville and Scott is a Tooling Engineer/Project Manager for Williamsburg Manufacturing. Our son Shawn is a Senior at ISU, with a major in Aerospace Engineering and a minor in Astrophysics. He is engaged and will be married to Holly on 07/07/07. Our daughter Kelsey will be a senior in the fall at Clear Creek-Amana High School and plans on going to school for nursing after graduation.

Star and I have been married since November 1992. We have no children but certainly have our hands full with a very spoiled dog named Ben. We spend most of our free time enjoying outdoor activities including hiking, mountain biking, snow skiing, and running. I moved to Colorado in 1984 after graduating from the Missouri Institute of Technology in Kansas City. I worked as a Technical Writer for Hewlett-Packard until 1999 at which time I “jumped ship” and joined a spin-off company, Agilent Technologies. Shortly after joining Agilent, I was promoted into my current position as Technical Marketing Manager. I am currently managing a globally-distributed team of Technical Writers and Web Developers. Star is a Registered Dietitian working as a Program Director for the Wyoming State Health Department. Yes, she puts a lot of effort into planning healthy meals for us BUT she has finally accepted the fact that I really love the sweets.

My best to each of you and your families.

I am a single mom with two children. Amanda is a 2000 graduate of Nevada High. She is now 19 and attending DMACC in Boone. My son Dylan ins 9 1/2 and is in multi-age in Central Elementary in Nevada. In 1982, I married Amanda's dad and moved to Kentucky. Sadly, the relationship ended and I moved back to Iowa (I like to see four seasons). I lived in Nevada for two years and then moved to Jewell-where I work as an Assistant Manager for Casey's Stores. When Amanda started high school, I moved back to Nevada. Today I work for Children's Services of Central Iowa as a lead teacher at the D.O.T. center. It is very rewarding. Amanda also works for CSCI as an assistant caregiver. Dylan is very busy doing 9 year old boy things. He scored a core total of 5.2 on his basic skills and he's only a 3rd grader. (OK, you know I have to brag a little.) No, Tony, you're not the only one without a degree. And I told Amanda NOT to make me a grandma before I'm 45.

Alex 1992
Austin 1992
Meghan 1997

Can't believe it's been 25 years already(after all, I'm only 35:))but it will be great catching up with everyone at the reunion!
After 14 years in Bloomington, IL, my husband Tim received a job promo/transfer to the Sanford (south of Raleigh), North Carolina Caterpillar plant. We moved to the "suburb" of Cary (jokingly referred to as Containment Area for Relocated Yankees due to the high number of transferees) in August 2005. Big adjustment for the kids and us but it's coming along. We have some great neighbors with vacation homes at the lake and the beach so have had great weekends.
I'm still a stay at home mom but keep busy with the house/volunteer work, etc. We're also making 'minor' adjustments to our house so keep busy. North Carolina is a beautiful state and we're still discovering the cities around us (Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, Wake Forest).
Alex and Austin are 13 and in 7th grade. Meghan is 9 and in 3rd grade. They are busy adjusting to new schools, etc.

You are all aware of my camera habit and I love to fix things. I attempted to join any military service that would teach me and allow me to repair cameras. The only service that would talk to me was the US Navy they offered me Nuclear Power Electronics I attended nuclear school in Orlando, FL. When I graduated I was assigned to a ship the USS Carl Vinson CVN-70 based out of Alameda, CA where I spent the next six years. In 1985 I met Sheryl Fay Cooper and we married in 1987. I told Sheryl that either we take her name or pull a name out of a hat. She chose to keep her's. It's been amusing over the years to see how different people react to me having a maiden name and she doesn't. She often gets accused of marring her own family. 1989 came and my enlistment ended. I applied for a job at BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) as an electronics technician. Kevon was born in 1993 and Krystal was born in 1999. During this time my job changed from a bench electronics tech, to an instructor of electronics, to instructor of computer maintenance and now I'm the Digital Media developer. I create digital training materials. My hobbies are computers and rockets. I'm especially proud of my Pinata rocket. I have a side business named Cooper Computing.

Katie (Kellogg) Dorman

Spouse: Jeff

Children:
Abby 1985
Grace 1992
Sophie 1994

I am certainly not where I imagined myself to be at our twenty year class reunion - I imagine few of us are. My husband, Jeff, left education last year and began a new career in pharmaceutical sales. He is employed by Bayer Corporation. If you have high cholesterol, urinary tract infections or those pesty bronchial infections, Dorman's the man with the plan.

My oldest daughter, Abby, is sixteen. She's driving vehicles and driving her parents crazy. Cruel irony. She's looking forward to her senior year and plans to go to Germany through AFS. Gracie, who's 9, and Sophie, who's 7, are thriving, creative, hilarious little girls.

Unfortunately, I am still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up. Finally, I am a stay at home mom. I survived ten years in the government - coding (ICD*9/CPT-4) medical records for the VA Medical Center. I left shortly after Newt and the boys reeked havoc on Capitol Hill and the hospital's budget. Now, I spend days with my kids at the pool. I love old houses and am currently working on painting and redecorating our 1917 Arts and Crafts. Norm and Martha are my heroes. Who knows what lies ahead.

Class reunions aren't my cup of tea, but would sincerely like to thank Scott Ellingson for his hard work(and everyone else involved). I can't remember the last time I had such a fun evening (Friday night). The cocktails were cold and the company great.

I have one stepdaughter and one grandson who live in Kansas City, MO.

I entered the restaurant industry after graduation and pursued a few years of college (DMACC & ISU). After living in Ames for 8 yrs, I moved to Kansas City, MO. There, I continued restaurant work & a couple of years as a Program Instructor for H. J. Heinz personal weight loss centers. At the age of 30, I was ready to finish college, receiving my B.L.A. from the University of Missouri @ KC. In 1994 I met by husband, Bill Higgins, at a Saturday afternoon blues jam session in KC. We've been together ever since that day!

Bill has been a conductor for the railroad since 1968. In 1997, the railroad moved us to Saint Paul, MN. We purchased an old house, built in 1885...yes, 1885. During this transition I decided that it was time for me to do what I love, for a living...cook. I began cooking at a fraternity house, then a sorority house @ the U of MN. I also spent a year as Event Manager-Catering for the luxury suites at Target Center Arena, home of the MN Timberwolves. The money was great but I decided that I needed to be in control of my own work environment & if I was going to work so hard, it would be for myself.

So, I started Personal Cuisines Personal Chef Service. What an adventure! You can visit my web site at http://personalcuisines.talkoftheplanet.com

Though I am not interested in having kids of my own, Bill's daughter, Crystal, is 21 & expecting our second grandchild.

It was really a gas to see everyone @ the 20th reunion...so many people look just the same! I hope life has been good to you all so far, & we'll see each other in 2006.

Maureen Smith was very quiet and very intelligent. I think she graduated early (like at the end of our Jr. year) - she was at Nevada from Kindergarten throughout graduation - long wavy brown hair.

Wish I could be there to see some of you and hear about your lives! We live in Long Island, NY I moved out here in 1992 and married in '93. What a change my life took. My husband is a stockbroker-VP at AG Edwards. I worked in the dental field until Beverly was born in 1996 and then became a stay at home mom. We are now in the process of adoption to hopefully expand our family. We just moved into our 2nd home. We're within walking distance of the beach. We also enjoy going to Knicks games at Madison Square Garden in NYC. Hope everyone is enjoying their lives and have a great time at the reunion.

Spouse: Annie

Children:
Jacob
Talia

This year (2006), Annie and I will celebrate our 23rd wedding anniversary. We moved to Elko, NV a few years ago. Elko is located on I-80 halfway between Reno and Salt Lake City, UT. I have been working for the University of Nevada, Reno Fire Science Academy for the last few years (www.fireacademy.unr.edu) as a Marketing Program Officer. Annie is working for a Home Health Care group here in town.

Jacob, our son, is now in the Air Force and stationed in Misawa, Japan. Our daughter Talia is in her 3rd year of school at Cal State Fullerton working on her Psychology degree.

Annie and I spend the weekends camping in the mountains with our two dogs - Lilly, a Portuguese Water Dog and Butters, a Mexican Mutt, hunting in the winter (me, not Annie) and still playing golf in the summer - altitude here makes me feel like a big hitter.

Bill Wherrett

Keith Davis:
Bill died on Memorial week-end 1987. He set out on a canoe trip. Some people were taking cars downstream so that they would be there when the canoe ride was over and they had transportation back up stream. On the way to taking the cars downstream Bill fell asleep and crossed the center line and hit another car head-on. Billed died shortly after the collision as did the driver of the other vehicle. Bill had numerous friends and everybody that met him liked him. I miss him everyday and wish he was here.

Annette (Christensen) Thompson:
Do you remember our Senior night at the Ames Drive In? I believe it was Sheryl Apland that was getting a little drunk when Bill Wherrett came over & she asked who he was. He answered "Bill" and she asked "Bill who?" so he said "Bill" again. She then said "Bill Bill?"
He was a great guy and drove back to Michigan with my mom to pick me up from college for Christmas break. I remember him getting lost in the girls' dorm (private college that didn't have co-ed dorms) and one of the deans asked him what he was doing there. He replied "How do I get the hell out of here?" She said "You're not supposed to be here!"

It's our 20th wedding anniversary. After high school, I worked at Hartzer House, did day care and ran a sewing business, was an inventory specialist for Conrad Autobody and cooked in a local grocery store. At one point we sold our house in Roland and bought an acreage North of Story City. Finally I work for the National Vet Services Lab. I wasn't the smartest person in our class, but I have brains now!!!! Lots and lots of brains. I work for the Pathobiology Laboratory, we receive brains in the mail daily to be tested for ***Mad Cow*** disease and other transmissible spongiform encephalopothies. I was on the sample collection team on the Vermont sheep that were shipped in to Ames. Our oldest, Zach, the nice quite one is pretty much a teen-school, work, girlfriend, never home. He will be a senior next year. Our middle son Ben, the spitting image of his father, is into racing motorcross (motorcycles-dirt bikes). This is what we do on the weekends. Our youngest, Josh, likes to do woodwork, crafts, painting, he's pretty laid back.
